Matthäus Michalik has more than 16 years of experience in online marketing and founded Claneo, one of the leading German agencies for international SEO and content marketing, in 2017.
With his expertise, he not only advises large and international clients such as Henkel, Bosch and HelloFresh, but is also responsible for the areas of agency marketing and new business. As a sought-after speaker, Matthäus enjoys sharing his expertise at conferences (e.g. OMR Festival, DMEXCO, E-Commerce Berlin EXPO), as a guest speaker at colleges and universities (Hamburg Media School & XU Exponential University), as well as in podcasts and as an author of various publications, including OMR SEO Reports or the W&V SEO column.
From trading in smartphone accessories to senior consultant
Matthäus gained experience in e-commerce back in 2007 when he founded his first trading company specializing in smartphone accessories. He focused primarily on importing and selling via various marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon, and others. During his studies in business informatics at TU Darmstadt, Matthäus finally delved deeper into the world of online marketing. At Hitmeister (now Kaufland.de), he was able to learn SEO and SEA from the ground up and participate in operational tasks ranging from ad management and creating new ads to keyword analyses.
Matthäus was then able to apply his knowledge at the online marketing agency SoQuero (now part of blueSummit) in Frankfurt, where he focused on off-page SEO and supported the team in generating new links for customer projects.In 2011, he moved to Berlin to support the new agency AKM3 (now Performics) with his expertise and to build up and manage the international link marketing team. This included advising companies such as 1&1, Saturn, Groupon and Zalando on their SEO strategies.
From 2015, Matthäus worked as a senior consultant with a focus on cross-channel strategic consulting in digital marketing at Performics Germany, a leading global performance marketing agency of Publicis Media. Here, he not only oversaw international clients such as Schwarzkopf, Mercedes Benz and Merck, but also provided support in setting up the Amazon marketing service under the Amazics sub-brand. In addition, Matthäus was appointed to the Next Generation Board of Publicis Media as one of 11 young talents from around 1,100 employees in Germany.
A new professional chapter
2017 gründete er gemeinsam mit seinen vorherigen Arbeitskolleg:innen Magdalena Mues und Martin Grahl die Online Marketing Agentur Claneo. Sein täglicher Antrieb liegt seither darin, die führende europäische Agentur für SEO & Content Marketing aufzubauen und Kund:innen individuelle und maßgeschneiderte Online-Marketing-Lösungen anzubieten. Dabei spielt es keine Rolle, ob es sich um ein frisch gestartetes Start-Up oder einen etablierten Konzern handelt –In 2017, he founded the online marketing agency Claneo together with his colleagues Magdalena Mues and Martin Grahl. Since then, his daily drive has been to build the leading European agency for SEO & content marketing and to offer clients individual and customized online marketing solutions.
